EVALUATION : Audience Feedback on Production

Here is the audience feedback I recieved from 12 people from my target audience, I chose them appropriately to make sure they were interested in the indie/ pop music and other factors that make them my target audience. From this it clearly showed that it was obvious my target audience knew the genre of my magazine as no one answered no to the question about if you can identify the genre of the magazine. The target audience thought images clearly showed the genre of the magazine the most. 10 out of 12 people also agreed that you could identify the sub genre. All 12 people also agreed that the magazine was for the age group of teenagers. The majority of the audience liked the images the most and the layout the least. 11 participants agreed to buy the magazine however 1 person would not because of the price. 10 answered yes to the question that the magazine has a clear style. 7 answered yes to enjoying the language in the double page spread. From this if I was to make any changes I would reduce the price, improve my language in my double page spread, clearly define a sub genre, and add a more interesting colourscheme.

EVALUATION : LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM THE FULL PRODUCT?

Looking back at my preliminary task, I have realised I have progressed significantly in terms of photography, such as having an appropriate image making sure the artist is looking at the reader with direct eye contact whereas the other image has no eye contact therefore it is not engaging the reader. The general sell line and tagline from the preliminary have developed in terms of language and looks more realistically like a magazine. The page structure and layout has also been improved because before on the mock up contents page of the preliminary task there was a lot of space and with consecutive numbers of pages so therefore there would have not been any advertising which would it make a very realistic magazine. The music magazine did not have consecutive numbered pages therefore allowing advertising. In general the style of the both magazines are very different, the music magazine looks much more professional. In terms of representation there has been development through making it a clearer in the music magazine who the text is specifically aimed at by using appropriate music magazine type photo’s ( with music based settings). Representation has also been improved within the text because the language that has been used is similar to the language of the target audience (16-24 year olds).

EVALUATION : WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?

The audience that my media product is aimed at likes creative subjects such as Art, photography and Media. They also love festivals such as Reading, Glastonbury and V festival! They are interested in Fashion and the latest trends and shop at Topshop and Urban Outfitters. They are also interested in cutting edge music and the indie/ pop genre. Most readers will be new drivers so they will aspire to have a classic car. Places that the audience will like to visit are the busy London and Brighton. The audience will also be aiming to take the creative subjects at higher education at university. They strongly dislike not having money to go to festivals. They will be interested in music but music will not be their entire life.

EVALUATION : What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this?

The technologies I have learnt about from the process of constructing my publication was a range of different multimedia programs. I used Microsoft publisher to construct my magazine because I had a choice of using 4 pages as a brochure being more the form of the magazine. Other software programmes I used were Adobe Photoshop, from this I learnt how to remove blemishes, delete backgrounds and isolate image, also learnt how to use reduction skills, and red eye removal. I learnt to change the colour of the image as well so I changed the colour of the image on the front page to blend in with the colour scheme. I also used a more advanced camera to take my images therefore I could avoid any problems such as pixelated images, bad quality or bad lighting e.g. This made a good convention because most successful magazines have good quality pictures and have none of these traits. The process of blogging was very new to me and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it, it was nice to voice my opinions about the magazine, and say about my ideas for the final magazine. When doing my drafts I found it helpful to publish them and to evaluate what I had achieved and what had not worked so well so far.

EVALUATION : How did you attract/address audience?

I attracted my audience by finding out specifically what they wanted from the magazine, I selected some participants like my target audience and asked them to fill out a questionnaire. From my questionnaire I was able to see what my target audience wanted to see within the final production, From the questionnaire I saw that the target audience wanted either pink, grey and black colour scheme or a red, black and white colour scheme. From this I decided to make the magazine colourscheme black, pink , grey and white. Also from the questionnaire I saw that readers thought a bold, colourful magazine that had information about upcoming gigs grabbed the attention of the indie/pop audience I was aiming to attract. So therefore I made sure each page had a bold and colourful element such as an image or the text lettering. Some other feedback I got from the questionnaires was that readers would prefer more images than text So I tried to make sure my images and text were both even amounts.

EVALUATION : WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?

EVALUATION : HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

”Abbie Reid” the artist represents the indie/pop genre of music through her photo containing a guitar conveying she is a musician, it is also suggested that she is a musician/ singer because of the setting of the picture being in a studio. Her outfit represents the ideology of british summer where teens go to festivals also mentioning in the interview that she performed at Reading and V festival gives festival connotations. She is posed with a guitar and microphone in the photo shoot to convey her passion for music and to show that the artist is a musician as well as a singer. The chatty, informal language of the text shows that it targets 16 – 24 year olds because it is similar to the language they use. Language and phrases that also suggest the magazine has a target audience of 16- 24 year olds is the choice of labels she describes shopping at, as these are fashionable high-street shops. Phrases such as ‘unwinding atmosphere’ also conveys a very relaxed type of language which is a phrase used in the double page spread. The artists attitude to music is presented in the written language as “. A major influence to my music career I would say is Madonna because she has been such a big part of music, and has tried out so many types of music. I adore her for her determination to try out anything. “  this conveys how the artist is interested in music experimentation, and has aspired to musical stars to help create her work. The artists attitude is also conveyed in the written language because she is very positive at the beginning of the interview stating that ‘All my music is important to me, It’s what I live for’. She also states that what she clearly loves about the indie/pop genreWhat I love about Pop/Indie music is that every artist that produces this type of music all have specific unique traits’. Implying that she has a good knowledge on the Pop/Indie scene.
The product represents a popular social group also because of the links and advice to go to I tunes to search for her music, this suggests how the readers know how to download music. The written text also suggests that the artist is now established because of this text It was definitely when my music became more known to people. Obviously I did have fans beforehand but this made an extreme impact.
